Fast Facts about prostate cancer

  • Prostate Cancer affects more than a quarter million men in the USA every year. One out of ten of these men will die from prostate cancer.

  •
The majority of these men will survive the disease with or without treatment. However, our efforts to identify exactly which patients will benefit from treatment remain incomplete.

  • The treatment options available for early stage organ-confined and low risk prostate cancer have been controversial.

  • Widespread screening has been cited as a cause of overdiagnosis of the disease.
  • A substantial number of men diagnosed with prostate cancer are overtreated.
